Leadership Excellence-Coaching Skills 1-Positive and Corrective Feedback Detailed Description
Coaching Skills are at the core of all good supervision, management and executive leadership. The nature of coaching in successful leadership is the engagement of team members and conducting a steady stream of performance enhancing communication. Effective leaders understand that coaching is at the core of the day-to-day operations and the most effective method of letting team members know how they are doing. Coaching is also the best and most effective method to build future talent for the organization.
Four distinct skills will be addressed and built in Coaching Skills. The first and most important coaching skill is the delivery of positive feedback. When done correctly, positive feedback will have a huge impact on morale, team development and productivity. The correct and frequent utilization of positive feedback may be one of the most commonly misunderstood tactical skills in leadership today.
As the opposite of positive feedback, corrective feedback
is the courageous conversations with team members when they make a mistake,
their behavior is inappropriate or they fail to meet expectations. Insuring that
these dialogs are successful and the leader maintains control is a focus of this
program. Also covered in Coaching Skills is teaching. Teaching is
the demonstration of how something is done. The final segment of
Coaching Skills is mentoring. Mentoring is the coaching skill that allows a
leader to grow their successor. It is also an important part of any
leader’s legacy and allows a much higher level of engagement with mentored team
members. Coaching Skills will provide the feedback and necessary engagement to drive your team to much higher levels.
