Leadership Insight: Dr. Steve BuuckDr. Steve Buuck

Dr. Steven Buuck is not your average college quarterback turned school executive. In fact, there is nothing average about Dr. Buuck at all. He married the college cheerleader, coached high school football, followed his father into a life of educational leadership and has consistently provided a great role model for others to follow.

Today, Steve is the Chief Executive Officer for Faith Lutheran Junior and Senior High School. Faith is largest private school in southern Nevada with an enrollment of 1,350 and was recently named one of just seven schools in the Lutheran Church school system as a National Exemplary School. There are over 2,300 Lutheran schools within the accreditation system.

Question: What brought you to Faith Lutheran Junior and Senior High School?

Answer: "What brought me to Faith was the mission opportunities that exist at Faith. We are the largest Lutheran school in the United States and the largest non public school in the state of Nevada. We have a significant percentage of un-churched students and sharing Jesus with them was a major motivator for my move."

Leadership Tip of the Month:

Focus: Coaching

Tip: Manage the ratio of positive feedback to corrective feedback.

For effective leadership, provide 75% positive feedback to 25% corrective feedback. Be sure to never connect the two types and spend a significant amount of time looking for and acknowledging the good your team produces.

Really high performing teams should receive 80% to 85% positive feedback compared to on 15% to 20% of corrective feedback.
