Leadership
Competency: Self Management
Skill:
Emotional Self Regulation
Read:
"No man is fit to command another that cannot
command himself."
William Penn
Enhance:
1. Identify Hot Buttons. Identify
your "hot button" emotional triggers that could include
people, places, events, or combinations of those elements.
2. Choose Reactions. After
identification of hot buttons remember to choose your reaction
to these events carefully. The reaction is your choice and
when you react poorly, please remember that you are
transferring power and credibility to the person pushing your
"hot button".
3. Avoid the Need to be Heard.
Especially when feeling wronged or attacked, this is a great
time to not respond and lash out. Respond to substance and not
to the emotion.
4. Evaluate Impacts. Understand
the impacts that your words and actions have on others. Think
before you speak and respond.
5. Battlefield Cool. Utilize a
calm approach to even the most stressful and emotional
situations. Step back and remember that how you react will
determine how your team reacts.
